The NCAA moves all sports to the Equivalency model. What this means for prospects.

This week the NCAA finalized several changes as part of the new revenue sharing model. Most notably are the removal of scholarship restrictions in non-head count sports. This simply means that all sports now have a roster limit and more student athletes can receive athletics aid up to full cost of attendance. This will also mean most NCAA Division I and II sports will see increases in roster limits set by the NCAA equaling more opportunity. All Division I and II sports will be required to have roster sizes and scholarship slots at or above their current limits. This will be a positive for some prospects and a headache for many coaches.

Keep in mind these numbers are only the maximums set by the NCAA and it is up to each individual institution as to how many students on the roster will be offered scholarships. For those institutions that choose not to fund the entire roster at the maximum level, it will create opportunities for Walk On’s and more scholarships for women’s sports.
